Who Gets Cosmetic Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)?
Cosmetic Ear Surgery is commonly performed on both children and adults. The ear reaches 85% of it's adult size by five years of age. This means a child with extremely prominent ears does not have to wait until he or she is full grown before correction. A peak in the number of Otoplasties is seen at age five, most likely to avoid the teasing which can increase as school starts. A second peak in Prominent Ear Correction is seen in young adults.
The most common Cosmetic Ear Surgeries include:
- Prominent Ear Correction
- Torn Earlobe Repair
- Cup Ear Correction
- Bat Ear Correction
- Lop Ear Correction
- Stahl's Ear (Spock Ear) Deformity
- Cauliflower Ear Reshaping
- Traumatic Ear Deformities
- Correction of Scapelling (Gauged Earlobes)
- Other Deformities due to Ear Piercings
